FERGHANA

Fergana region is one of the most beautiful areas of the oasis. Surrounded by the Tien Shan mountains and crossed by the waters of the Syr Darya and Naryn, the region is an ideal place for farming and animal husbandry.

The city of Kokand, located in the Western part of the Ferghana region, is one of the ancient cities of Uzbekistan. The first written evidence of the city of Khukand, Havokand (old names of the city) are found in the Chronicles of the X century. The city was an important trading center on the great Silk road and in the XIII century, like most Central Asian cities, was destroyed by the Mongols. But the world fame of the city comes in the XVIII century, when it becomes the capital of the richest and developed Kokand khanate. The architecture of the Khan’s period is well preserved in modern Kokand. Visitors of the city especially like to walk around the Palace of Khudoyar Khan, visit the shops of local artisans, participate in master classes.

Margilan in ancient times was widely known for its masters in the manufacture of carpets and fabrics, especially Khan-Atlas. This is a city with unique architectural traditions. Once here, you will be taken to the Silk factory. Here, the Uzbek Khan Atlas is almost entirely made by hand. Tourists never cease to be surprised by the skill of local artisans. At first glance, it seems that there is nothing complicated about this. But only after trying to extract the threads themselves, paint them or put together a composition, they understand-this is hard work and daily honing of skills. Ferghana masters have come up with their own unique technique and technology for extracting the thread from the cocoon and dyeing the fibers, which is almost 4 thousand years old. To this day, Margilan silk is considered the only one of its kind.

Cool air, swirling rivers and mountain lakes make this region a great place to relax and travel. However, Shakhimardan is also a sacred area, a place of religious pilgrimage.

Caravans with silk were sent from Margilan to Arabia, where more than 20 million meters of silk fabrics were produced.

The resort town of Shakhimardan is located 55 km from Ferghana in a picturesque high-altitude area (1500 m above sea level). This is a place of stunning beauty, lost among the mountains of the Alai range and washed on both sides by the rivers OK-su and Kok-su. Seven kilometers South-East of Shakhimardan is the Kulikubbon lake or Blue Lake. It was formed after a series of strong earthquakes in 1766. The lake is located at an altitude of 1724 m above sea level. The lake is 170 m long, 60 m wide and 5-10 m deep. A two-kilometer cable car leads to the lake.

Kuva is a small city located in the North-East of the Ferghana region. It is located 20 km from the regional center of Ferghana. The name of the city comes from the Turkic tribal name “Kuva”, which was known among the Kyrgyz and Uzbeks. The exact date of the ancient city’s Foundation is unknown, but archaeologists attribute the date to the third century BC.

Kuva was once the second largest city in the region after the ancient capital of the Ferghana region – the city of Ahsiket. And today Kuva is not only a beautiful city with the most juicy fruits in all of Uzbekistan, but also a significant memorial that has become a bright decoration of the tourist route through the Ferghana region.
