Here, through an Iron Gate in a mountain gorge, trade caravans moved. This way were the troops of Alexander the great, Genghis Khan, and Amir Timur. Neanderthal remains were found in the cave of Teshik – Tash in Baisun, and Mesolithic rock paintings were found in the kugitanga mountains. Termez is the center of Surkhandarya region.
