There are many cities in the Samarkand region. The most famous of them is located in the Pamir-Alai mountains – Samarkand.
Samarkand is an amazing city. It is called the Mirror of the World, the Garden of the soul, the Pearl of the East. But the beauty of Samarkand cannot be expressed in words – you need to enjoy this splendor with your own eyes.
The city went through times of UPS and downs, it was destroyed and built again, making it more beautiful. Here the trade roads of the Great silk road were intertwined and formed. Samarkand was conquered by Alexander the great and Genghis Khan. Amir Timur made the city the capital of his Empire.
During the reign of Ulugbek, Samarkand was the scientific and cultural center of the East. Samarkand keeps relics. Monuments of ancient architecture, heritage of cultural and art schools, centers of national crafts that exist in the ancient city are famous all over the world.
Material and spiritual values have been preserved here, which is why the city is included in the UNESCO world Heritage List.
What do you need to do when you are in the Samarkand region?
Silk carpet factory
One of the most valuable materials in the East is considered silk. Since ancient times, the traditions of making clothes from silk and silk carpets have been preserved here from generation to generation.
The art of weaving carpets was valued most of all, since each house necessarily had several silk carpets.
After visiting Samarkand, it is worth visiting the factory of silk carpets “Samarkand Bukhara silk Carpets”. Here you can watch directly the process of making carpets, see unique samples of carpet products and, of course, order one of them.
Meros paper mill
It was founded by the Muhtarov brothers – masters. Their efforts at the factory revived the ancient tradition of making paper using old Samarkand technologies. Production is done manually. Each guest of the factory not only watches the production of paper, but also participates in the process itself. At the entrance to the factory there is a small teahouse where tourists are treated to pilaf and fruit. You can also visit the farms of Bulungur, Tailak, and Samarkand districts.
Siab Bazaar
To visit Samarkand and not visit the Bazaar means to miss one of the most interesting adventures.
The Eastern market is a very special environment where you can best feel the lively atmosphere of the ancient city. Many years ago, markets served as the main strategic objects of trade on the great Silk road. Siab Bazaar in Samarkand is one of the most interesting and ancient places of the city that every tourist should see. Crossing the threshold of the arch, you immediately find yourself in a completely different, even somewhat fairy-tale atmosphere: an abundance of colors catches your eyes, the hum of voices of hundreds of buyers and traders is in your ears, and an abundance of fruits and vegetables strikes you. Siab Bazaar in Samarkand almost never sleeps. Trade here begins before the first rays of the sun and ends late in the evening. Siab Bazaar is considered dehkan, so it mainly sells vegetables, fruits, melons grown by hard-working farmers of Uzbekistan, as well as food products created by the hands of local residents. Shopping malls are divided by product type. Local sellers say that Siab dried fruits, sweets and nuts are so delicious that even residents of the capital come here to buy them. And in the Eastern market you can find an incredible amount of spices, even the rarest. In addition to food items, you can buy products of local artisans and craftsmen. What is the Eastern market without tastings? Here, as in any other Bazaar, good-natured merchants will not only allow you to try the product before buying, but will even insist on it.
And, of course, the main subtlety of the Eastern Bazaar is the” rite ” of bargaining.
Every buyer here considers it his duty to bargain with the seller before buying. And the point here is not even to throw off the price, but rather, a habit that Asian residents form from an early age. And the one who shows more talent in this business will be the winner.
In addition to always fresh and diverse products, Siab market in Samarkand has another feature – it is a place where you can find out all the latest news and events taking place in the city.
Uzbek people are very sociable, and people easily start conversations even with strangers. Visiting this Bazaar, you will plunge into the atmosphere of Samarkand’s idleness, mystery and will be able to understand well what the city lives and “breathes”.
Along with juicy fruits and fragrant bread, you will take away from this market a piece of the Eastern atmosphere, which will always remain in your memory pleasant moments.
